PRACTICAL EXAM

The LEGAL Responsibilities of a Pilates Instructor
According to USA Law and standards set by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) a Pilates Instructor is equivalent to a Fitness Trainer.
A Fitness Trainer must be able to asses a client's current fitness level and develop a Fitness Program based on the client's needs and abilities.

An International Pilates Certification official will evaluate your Fitness Assessment, Program Design and Teaching Style.
BELOW is a format for your Fitness Assessment and Program Design segment.

Be advised to practice this Practical Exam prior to your scheduled presentation.

I. PERFORM A FITNESS ASSESMENT with a person of your choosing
STEP 1. Conduct a '
Health History Questionnaire' PRINT FORMS
STEP 2. Perform a 'POSTURE ANALYSIS'
(refer to 'The Pilates Bible' page 43)
STEP 3. Take a 'FLEXIBILITY TEST' 
(refer to 'The Pilates Bible' pages 101, 102)
STEP 4. Document your FITNESS TESTING' results.
(refer to 'The Pilates Bible' page 410)

II. DESIGN A PILATES PROGRAM based on: the client’s goals and your assessment (refer to 'The Pilates Bible' pages 416-431)
Choosing the appropriate Pilates exercise must be determined through your assessment of the client and the purpose or benefit of the exercise.
Identify the client’s abilities, limitations and immediate needs, such as:
     a.
POST-Rehabilitation including; injury, soreness, illness or emotional status,
     b.
Awareness; neuromuscular control or coordination problems
     c.
Stress reduction; excessive muscular tension or a lack of flexibility
     d.
Strength; of mind, body or spirit
     e.
Energy; due to muscular endurance, cardio vascular or glucose levels

III. Demonstrate your ability to INSTRUCT YOUR CLIENT efficiently, effectively and SAFELY, based on your 'Fitness Assessment'.

* Please submit a copy of your 'Fitness Assessment' & 'Program Design' to IPCertification at least two weeks prior to your Practical Exam.
NOTE: the fitness assessment and program design you send to us MUST be of the same person you chose for your demonstration.

*** Your Practical Exam segments one and three will be observed by an IPC official at a predetermined location or via 'Skype'
